Milan Systemic Family Therapy (10 cpd hours)
About this module:
This online module describes the Milan approach to systemic family therapy, including key ideas and practices such as hypothesising, circularity and neutrality; and introduces systemic family interviewing skills and circular questioning.
The module consists of 3 self-paced sections and includes video demonstration, practical examples, reflective tasks, readings and a short quiz.
The course is suitable for health and welfare professionals who currently work with or intend to work with families. This module will take 8-10 hours to complete, including learning tasks, readings and assessments (10 cpd hours).
Learning outcomes:
- To review the Milan approach to systemic family therapy, including the original key ideas and practices of hypothesising, circularity and neutrality; and progression to the ideas of post-Milan and postmodern thinking.
- To develop knowledge of systemic family interviewing skills and circular questioning.
- To review the impact of second order cybernetics, viewing the client as the expert and valuing the therapist–client relationship.
- To recognise the importance of gender, sexuality, culture and power issues in family therapy and the influence of social constructionist ideas, as well as psychoanalytic ideas for working within the therapeutic relationship.
