About the Workshop:

Neuropsychology is recognised as a distinct discipline of psychology.  This workshop provides participants with a framework and practical guide to incorporate reflective practice into neuropsychology supervision as required by AHPRA PsyBA requirements and is based on developmental and competency models of supervision and neuropsychological practice.




By the end of this workshop participants will: 



  • Have sound knowledge of the goals of neuropsychological supervision, including critical thinking and decision making, ethical practice and systems awareness
  • Have a solid understanding of the supervisory relationship, purpose, structure and expectations and goals within a neuropsychological context
  • Be able to apply reflective practice in neuropsychology supervision and understand how reflectivity promotes independent thinking and improved clinician self-awareness
  • Be aware of the importance of reflective supervision for therapeutic intervention, neuropsychological feedback and self-care
  • Understand the challenges of working in the eld of neuropsychology and apply this in supervision
  • Consider how to identify and manage complex issues in neuropsychological supervision including complex decision making, diagnosis, diversity issues, delivery of efficient and effective patient care and professional obligations
  • Have an understanding of how to use journals/diaries in supervision that promote independent reflective practice within a neuropsychological framework.

About the Presenter(s):     


Dr. Nicola Gates, BA. (Hons), M. Phil (Psychol), MA. (Clin Neuropsychol), PhD Nicola is a Clinical Neuropsychologist and has 20 years clinical experience as a registered Psychologist and Clinical Neuropsychologist, with a PhD in neuropsychiatry. She is an experienced clinician, educator and supervisor and is widely recognized as having expertise in the field combining neuroscience research, evidence based therapies, mindfulness, and positive psychology. She has worked in hospital, community and corporate settings and offers consultancy in her specialized field to government services and private corporations.



On successful completion of this one day Master Class participants will be issued a certificate of completion which needs to be submitted to the Board with the Application to maintain Board-approved supervisor status – MBAS-76 form (available from the Board’s website). Participants will then receive a further 5 years accreditation as an approved supervisor.
