Event Description

The aim of this one day workshop is to provide a framework for setting up, managing and evaluating competency based supervision. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss practical issues that both hinder and promote supervisio within the workplace, and consider ways to apply a structured framework of supervision. Participants will work in small groups practicing setting up supervision, determining learning goals and participating in a group supervision session that can be immediately applied in their workplace using the Supervision Handbook and resources provided at the workshop.

- Defining best practice competency based supervision

- Setting up supervision within the workplace

  • Overview of theoretical frameworks of supervision
  • Contract setting
  • Learning contracts
  • Identifying and managing difference in professional backgrounds and skills level within the group
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Reviewing the Supervision Workbook (Resource manual for each participant) 

- Different models of group supervision

  • Working with closed groups, open groups, peer groups (what are the differences and when to use what modal) 
  • Applying a systems lens (wider context issues)
  • Creative applications in supervision
  • Providing feedback in supervision

- Applying reflective practice in action

- Evaluating supervision 

- Identifying and managing ethical and professional practice issues in supervision

- Minimising and managing problems 

 

Learning Outcomes:

- Understanding and developing skills to facilitate group supervision

- Engaging participants in reflective practice within the group supervision process

- Developing a range of tools and resources to facilitate reflectice discussion and targeted action in clinical practice

- Ability to manage group supervision processes and diversity within the group 

 

Presenter: Christine Senediak

 

About the Presenter

Christine Senediak is a Board Approved supervisor trainer with 30 years clinical experience and over 25 years experience as a supervisor and educator. She supervises widely providing individual, peer, group and organisational supervision to psychiatrists, psychologists and other health clinicians working in child, adolescent and family services, schools, adult mental health, drug health, gambling, sexual assault, cross cultural and trauma services. She divides her time between education, clinical work and supervision. Christine has trained as a systemic family therapist, which influences her approach to clinical supervision where the wider context is considered in understanding the development and maintenance of problems in clinical presentations. She employs a reflective practice approach to supervision enhancing self-awareness of relational issues between therapist, client and systems. Christine incorporates elements of systemic, cognitive behavioural, mindfulness and person centered therapies in supervision and training.
