Successful completion of this course provides participants with the Clinical Supervision Services Certificate of Attainment in Professional Supervision.
Course Outline
The aim of this course is to provide a framework for conducting and evaluating effective clinical supervision using a competency based framework incorporating reflective practice. Participants will develop the necessary skills for setting up a rewarding clinical supervision relationship to enhance supervisee learning and skill development, considering the systemic issues of their workplace/team and client group.
How the course is structured (51 hours):
Part 1: Pre-Workshop Supervision Workbook with self-assessment and learning tasks (35 hours)
Part 2: 2-day Interactive skills based videoconference workshop (14 hours)
Part 3: Post-Workshop 2-hour Supervision videoconference group session (2 hours)
Part 1: Supervision E-Workbook (digital)
Prior to attending the 2-day workshop participants are provided with a Supervision e-Workbook covering core preparatory readings, learning resources, links to clinical supervision training videos and podcast lectures. As a participant of the Clinical Supervisor Training Package, you will be expected to work through and complete all learning and the self-assessment tasks. This workbook is an invaluable guide that covers how to set up, conduct and evaluate effective supervision.

Part 2: 2 day workshop (Online videoconference workshop - Zoom)
At the completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

understand the key concepts involved in setting up and maintaining a collaborative clinical supervision relationship, using evidence based practice and considering professional practice and workplace guidelines

have a well-defined theoretical understanding from which to base clinical supervision practice
-
identify the roles and responsibilities within a clinical supervision framework, including consideration of the ethical and legal parameters of clinical practice
-
discuss prospective supervisor’s and supervisee’s knowledge and understanding of the supervisory process
-
be able to identify the supervisee’s strengths and needs for supervision
-
demonstrate and provide information on how to structure individual, peer and group supervision sessions
-
explore and provide a framework on how to give feedback regarding clinical practice and case management
-
learn how to deal with ‘crises’ and stressful situations which may arise for the supervisee in regards to their clinical practice
-
identify and provide information on how to evaluate supervision sessions and maximise supervisee professional development
-
develop skills to balance both administrative and clinical responsibilities.
Part 3: Supervision Group Consultation Session - Zoom Videoconference (2 hours - Date negotiated with participants)
The Supervision Group Consultation Session will provide an opportunity for participants to collectively review how you have applied the course content as a supervisor using a supervision log and reflective journal. This is a group session conducted via Zoom approximately 6 weeks post workshop.

On successful completion of the course, participants will be issued with a Clinical Supervision Services Certificate of Attainment in Professional Supervision.
PRESENTER: Sam Vasta
Sam Vasta is an accredited PsyBA Supervisor Trainer and approved supervisor. For over 35 years he has worked in the community mental health sector as a frontline mental health clinician and in managerial roles where he has developed competencies in dealing with the variety of mental health disorders. In the adult mental health space this has included providing and coordinating care for people with a variety of disorders, including psychosis, mood disorders, personality disorders and trauma. Sam has extensive experience in providing supervision to staff working in public mental health, private psychology practice and community-managed organisations who provide direct clinical services and who are in managerial roles. Sam has a background in providing systemic, narrative and other evidence-based models of supervision to practitioners, in addition to supporting team leaders/managers who work more broadly in their supervision of staff.
