Certificate provided: For psychologists applying for Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Accredited Supervisor Accreditation: On successful completion of Part 1 (Online Knowledge Assessment), Part 2 (two-day workshop) and Part 3 (Assessment of Competency), participants will be issued a certificate of completion which needs to be submitted to the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA) with the Application to apply for Board-approved supervisor status – ABAS-76 form (available from the Board’s website). This certificate needs to be submitted with Certificate 1 (online course) and Certificate 3 (Assessment of Competency).  Once all three components are successfully completed participants will then receive 5 years accreditation as an approved supervisor. Applicants wishing to apply for AHPRA Supervisor Accreditation should familiarise themselves with the AHPRA Psychology Board of Australia criteria for becoming a supervisor prior to enrolling in this course.

The Supervisor Full Training comprises 3 components:

Part 1: Online Course 
Part 2: 2-day skills based workshop- Singapore 27-28 September 2022
Part 3: Assessment of Competency

Part 1: Online Knowledge Assessment. Following enrolment, you will be sent details for accessing the online component on our learning platform.

Part 2:
Two-day workshop
 integrating theory and small group practice (successful completion of on-line course is prerequisite). The two day workshop will further expand on the topics covered in the on-line component reviewing PsyBA supervision requirements. The two day workshop is interactive including live demonstrations, small group activities, practice exercises and class discussion. Comprehensive readings are provided in addition to Supervision Resource Handbook.

 

TOPICS INCLUDE

• Setting up competency based clinical supervision

• The supervisory relationship

• Live demonstration (pre-supervisory meeting; contract setting and establishing learning goals)

• Small group practice exercises

• Reflective practice theory and practice

• Supervision interventions (using videos and tapes, assessment of skill acquisition)

• Micro-skills training, modelling and demonstrations

• Structural considerations (Skype, telehealth supervision)

• Techniques and methods including case consultation, writing activities, journal, log books, process recoding, and structured case review forms and live observation methods

• Supervision relationship issues (awareness and sensitivity to diversity)

• Dealing with difficulties in supervision

• Ethics and Professional Practice issues, including procedural dilemmas

• The role of self-evaluation

• Evaluating supervisee skills in accordance with AHPRA criteria.


Part 3: Assessment of Competency
On completion of the online component of training and the two day skills based workshop participants are required to submit a video or audio recording of a real or simulated supervision session.  Accompanying the submitted recording participants are required to provide a short reflection paper which demonstrates the attainment of the competencies of supervision as outlined by the PsyBA.  Further details of this task are available on enrolment for this component.  A confidential feedback report is provided to the participant regarding the supervision session.

The aim of this assessment task is for the participant to reflect on what they have learnt and how the knowledge and skills will be applied in the role as supervisor of psychologists in the future.

In the recording and accompanying summary report it is expected the participant will be able to demonstrate:

  • analysis and reflection of the provision of supervision
  • appropriate use of questioning
  • appropriate use of clinical examples demonstrating feedback and reflective practice
Time period: 

You have six (6) months from the time you have completed the two day workshop.

Complete the form below when submitting and paying for the individual component Part 3: 'Assessment of Competency audio/video only’.  If you have already paid all 3 components of Full Training you do not need to submit this form.  Component 3 is equivalent to 10 CPD hours.
