Competency Based Supervision Workshop

This workshop provides participants with a thorough understanding of the principles and practice of effective clinical supervision. You will learn how to set up and conduct effective and supportive supervision, learn how to give feedback and evaluate supervision incorporating best practice standards and reflective practice. Participants will benefit from the opportunity to discuss case scenarios reviewing ethical challenges and how to manage, support and promote supervisee self-care.

Workshop content includes:

• Setting up competency-based clinical supervision 

• Establishing and managing the working alliance supervisory relationship 

• Live demonstration (pre-supervisory meeting, contract setting and establishing learning goals) 

• Reflective practice - theory and practice 

• Supervision interventions (using videos and tapes, assessment of skill acquisition) 

• Micro-skills training, modelling and demonstrations 

• Structural considerations (individual vs group contexts, tele-health) 

• Techniques and methods, including case consultation, writing activities, journal, log books, process recording, structured case review forms and live observation methods 

• Supervision relationship issues (awareness and sensitivity to diversity) 

• Evaluation methods 

• Providing effective feedback. 
   

All course notes are provided electronically, including references, PowerPoint presentations and a Supervision Resources Handbook.

CERTIFICATE PROVIDED: On successful completion of the course, participants will be issued with a Competency Based Supervision Workshop Certificate (14 hours).
 

Certificate of Attainment in Supervision Course

The aim of this course is to provide a framework for conducting and evaluating effective clinical supervision using a competency-based framework incorporating reflective practice. Participants will develop the necessary skills for setting up a rewarding clinical supervision relationship to enhance supervisee learning and skill development, considering the systemic issues of their workplace/team and client group.

Part 1: Supervision E-Workbook (digital)

Part 2: 2 day workshop (online via Zoom)

• understand key concepts involved in setting up and maintaining a collaborative clinical supervision relationship

• have a well-defined theoretical understanding of clinical supervision practice

• identify the roles and responsibilities within a clinical supervision framework

• be able to identify the supervisee’s strengths and needs for supervision

• demonstrate and provide information on how to structure individual, peer and group supervision sessions

• explore and provide a framework on how to give feedback regarding clinical practice and case management

• learn how to deal with ‘crises’ and stressful situations which may arise for the supervisee in regards to their clinical practice

• identify and provide information on how to evaluate supervision sessions and maximise supervisee professional development.
   

Part 3: Supervision Group Consultation - Zoom Videoconference (2-hour group session conducted 6 weeks post workshop)

CERTIFICATE PROVIDED: Clinical Supervision Services Certificate of Attainment in Professional Supervision (51 hours).
